The goal of the York Technical College Surgical Technology program is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

The Associate in Applied Science major in Surgical Technology Degree program prepares graduates for entry-level surgical technology careers.  It includes courses in aseptic technique, operative procedures, patient care, anatomy, microbiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, medical/legal aspects, and related general education to help the student fulfill his/her role as an important, knowledgeable member of the surgical team.  This program combines classroom work with clinical rotations.

Students enrolled in this program are subject to criminal background checks and drug screenings.  York Technical College does not require the COVID-19 vaccination for students as a condition of enrollment or attendance.  Students intending to enroll in a health-care related program should be aware that York Technical College maintains clinical placement agreements with health care facilities where students are required to complete clinical rotations as part of the requirements for their academic program.  Clinical sites maintain their own policies governing vaccine and booster requirements, including the COVID-19 vaccine, and any exemption processes related to those requirements.  Students choosing to pursue a program that requires a clinical component must follow all vaccine policies and requirements of clinical sites.  Vaccine requirements and the approval of exemptions are at the sole discretion of each clinical site, and clinical sites may implement and modify vaccine requirements at any time as they deem necessary.

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of Accreditation Review Council/Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. CAAHEP is located at 9355 - 113th St. N, #7709, Seminole, FL 33775. Their telephone number is 727-210-2350.  Graduates of the program are prepared to take the national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam.  The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential is a registered trademark of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and may only be used by individuals who have taken and passed the national certification examination and hold a valid certification issued by NBSTSA.
